CALML5

Description

The CALML5 (calmodulin like 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

Calmodulin-like protein 5 is a protein encoded by the CALML5 gene in humans. This gene produces a novel calcium-binding protein found in the epidermis, related to the calmodulin family of calcium-binding proteins. Experiments with the protein in a laboratory setting demonstrate its ability to bind calcium and undergo a change in shape when it does. Significant expression is only detected in artificial skin and is limited to keratinocytes that are in the process of becoming fully mature. This protein can also associate with transglutaminase 3, which is known to be an important enzyme in the final stage of keratinocyte development.

CALML5 is also known as CLSP.
