BTN2A2

Description

The BTN2A2 (butyrophilin subfamily 2 member A2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

Butyrophilin subfamily 2 member A2 (BTN2A2) is a protein encoded by the BTN2A2 gene in humans. It is a type 1 receptor glycoprotein involved in lipid, fatty-acid and sterol metabolism. BTN2A2 is the major protein associated with fat droplets in milk and is part of the butyrophilin protein family. The BTN2A2 gene is located on chromosome 6 within a cluster of seven genes belonging to the B7/butyrophilin-like group, a subset of the immunoglobulin gene superfamily. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but the full-length nature of some variants has not been determined.

BTN2A2 is also known as BT2.2, BTF2, BTN2.2.
