BNIP2

Description

The BNIP2 (BCL2 interacting protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

BNIP2, encoded by the BNIP2 gene, is a member of the BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kd-interacting protein (BNIP) family. Its specific function is unknown, but it interacts with the E1B 19 kDa protein, which protects against virally induced cell death, as well as E1B 19 kDa-like sequences of BCL-2, another apoptotic protector. BNIP2 has been shown to interact with ARHGAP1, Bcl-2, and CDC42.

BNIP2 is also known as BNIP-2, NIP2.
