BNIP1

Description

The BNIP1 (BCL2 interacting protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

BNIP1, also known as SEC20, plays a role in the fusion of endoplasmic reticulum membranes and is essential for maintaining the organization of the endoplasmic reticulum. It also participates in apoptosis, particularly during endoplasmic reticulum stress. BNIP1 is a substrate of RNF185 and interacts with SQSTM1, suggesting a potential role in mitochondrial autophagy.

BNIP1 is also known as NIP1, SEC20, TRG-8.
