BMP2K

Description

The BMP2K (BMP2 inducible kinase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

BMP-2-inducible protein kinase (BMP2K) is an enzyme in humans. This gene is the human counterpart of the mouse BMP-2-inducible kinase. BMPs (bone morphogenic proteins) are crucial for skeletal development and patterning. The mouse gene's expression increases during BMP-2 induced differentiation, and the product is a potential serine/threonine protein kinase containing a nuclear localization signal. Therefore, the protein produced by this human homolog is believed to be a protein kinase that might regulate the process of osteoblast differentiation. This gene has two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.

BMP2K is also known as BIKE, HRIHFB2017.
