Description:
Black lung disease, also known as pneumoconiosis, is a chronic respiratory condition caused by prolonged exposure to coal mine dust or other sources of inhaled coal. It is characterized by the accumulation of coal dust in the lungs, leading to scarring, inflammation, and impaired lung function.

In addition to black lung disease, individuals with prolonged exposure to coal dust may be at increased risk for:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Lung cancer
- Cor pulmonale (right-sided heart failure)
- Pulmonary fibrosis
