BICD1

Description

The BICD1 (BICD cargo adaptor 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

BICD1 is a human protein encoded by the BICD1 gene. It is one of two human homologs of the Drosophila bicaudal-D protein. BICD1 is implicated in COPI-independent membrane transport from the Golgi apparatus to the endoplasmic reticulum. Two alternative splice variants have been described. Additional alternative splice variants have been identified, but their full-length nature has not been confirmed. BICD1 interacts with RAB6A.

BICD1 regulates the movement of cargo between the Golgi apparatus and the endoplasmic reticulum, a process independent of the COPI coat complex. It achieves this by recruiting the dynein-dynactin motor complex.

BICD1 is also known as BICD, bic-D 1.
