BCL2L2

Description

The BCL2L2 (BCL2 like 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

BCL2L2 is a protein encoded by the BCL2L2 gene on human chromosome 14. It is a pro-survival (anti-apoptotic) member of the bcl-2 protein family, closely related to Bcl-xL. BCL2L2 forms hetero- or homodimers with other proteins in this family, regulating cell survival and apoptosis. High levels of BCL2L2 are associated with several cancers, including glioblastoma, colorectal cancer, non-small-cell lung carcinoma, and breast cancer. BCL2L2 has been shown to protect neurons from cell death induced by amyloid beta and is elevated in Parkinson's disease patients with a mutant PARK2 gene.

BCL2L2 is also known as BCL-W, BCL2-L-2, BCLW, PPP1R51.
