BCDIN3D

Description

The BCDIN3D (BCDIN3 domain containing RNA methyltransferase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

BCDIN3D is an O-methyltransferase that specifically adds a methyl group to the 5'-monophosphate of cytoplasmic histidyl tRNA (tRNA(His)). This acts as a capping enzyme, protecting tRNA(His) from degradation by the DICER1 enzyme. BCDIN3D also methylates the 5'-monophosphate of some pre-miRNAs, although less efficiently, acting as a negative regulator of miRNA processing. Methylation of pre-miRNAs at this position inhibits their processing by DICER1. Previous studies suggested that BCDIN3D mediates dimethylation of pre-miR-145, but subsequent research has shown that it only monomethylates pre-miR-145.
