BCAS1

Description

The BCAS1 (brain enriched myelin associated protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

BCAS1 is a protein encoded by the BCAS1 gene in humans. It was discovered in a region on chromosome 20 (20q13) that is frequently amplified in various tumor types, suggesting a potential role in cancer development. While BCAS1 expression is elevated in some breast cancer cell lines, it's not consistently expressed across all breast cancers, making its role in cancer progression complex. Although its exact function is not fully understood, BCAS1 is predicted to be a protein of 584 amino acids with no known similarities to other proteins. It's considered a candidate oncogene, meaning it could potentially contribute to uncontrolled cell growth and cancer.

Plays a crucial role in the process of myelination.

BCAS1 is also known as AIBC1, NABC1, PMES-2.
