BAMBI

Description

The BAMBI (BMP and activin membrane bound inhibitor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

BAMBI (BMP and activin membrane-bound inhibitor homolog) is a protein encoded by the BAMBI gene in humans. It is a transmembrane glycoprotein similar to type I receptors of the TGF-beta family, which play vital roles in cell signaling. However, BAMBI lacks the intracellular kinase domain necessary for signaling, making it a pseudoreceptor. Research suggests that BAMBI may function to limit TGF-beta signaling during early embryonic development. Studies in other organisms like frogs, mice, and zebrafish have shown that similar proteins act as negative regulators of TGF-beta.

BAMBI inhibits the signaling of the TGF-beta family, a group of proteins crucial for various developmental and disease processes.

BAMBI is also known as NMA.
