BAG4

Description

The BAG4 (BAG cochaperone 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

BAG4 is a protein encoded by the BAG4 gene in humans. It belongs to the BAG1-related protein family, which are involved in cell apoptosis and growth. BAG4 contains a BAG domain that binds and inhibits the chaperone activity of Hsc70/Hsp70. It interacts with the death domain of TNFRSF1A and DR3, negatively regulating downstream cell death signaling. BAG4 was shown to be involved in apoptosis in epithelial cells that lose integrin mediated matrix contacts.

BAG4 inhibits the chaperone activity of HSP70/HSC70 by promoting substrate release. It prevents constitutive TNFRSF1A signaling and acts as a negative regulator of PRKN translocation to damaged mitochondria.

BAG4 is also known as BAG-4, SODD.
