B3GNT3

Description

The B3GNT3 (UDP-GlcNAc:betaGal beta-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The B3GNT3 gene encodes a member of the beta-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase family. This enzyme is a type II transmembrane protein with a non-cleaved signal anchor. It prefers substrates like lacto-N-tetraose and lacto-N-neotetraose, and participates in the biosynthesis of poly-N-acetyllactosamine chains and the backbone structure of dimeric sialyl Lewis a. It plays critical roles in L-selectin ligand biosynthesis, lymphocyte homing, and lymphocyte trafficking.

B3GNT3 is involved in the synthesis of poly-N-acetyllactosamine. It acts on type 2 oligosaccharides and also functions as a core1-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase (Core1-beta3GlcNAcT) to create the 6-sulfo sialyl Lewis x on extended core1 O-glycans.

B3GNT3 is also known as B3GAL-T8, B3GN-T3, B3GNT-3, HP10328, TMEM3, beta3Gn-T3.
