AZI2
Description
The AZI2 (5-azacytidine induced 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.
The human AZI2 gene encodes for 5-azacytidine-induced protein 2, also known as NAP1. This protein contributes to the activation of NFKB-dependent gene expression by activating IKK-related kinases, such as NAK (TBK1).
AZI2 acts as an adapter protein, binding to TBK1 and IKBKE, playing a vital role in antiviral innate immunity. It activates and promotes the oligomerization of TBK1, a serine/threonine-protein kinase. This activation enhances the phosphorylation of NF-kappa-B p65 subunit RELA by TBK1, leading to the promotion of TBK1-induced as well as TNF-alpha or PMA-induced activation of NF-kappa-B. AZI2 also participates in IFNB promoter activation via TICAM1.
