AWAT1
Description
The AWAT1 (acyl-CoA wax alcohol acyltransferase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.
AWAT1 is an acyltransferase that catalyzes the formation of wax monoesters by combining fatty alcohols and fatty acyl-CoAs. It demonstrates a strong preference for decyl alcohol (C10) over C16 and C18 alcohols, and for saturated acyl-CoAs. This enzyme is critical for the synthesis of wax esters, which play a vital role in various biological functions.
AWAT1 is also known as DGA2, DGAT2L3.
