AVPR1B
Description
The AVPR1B (arginine vasopressin receptor 1B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
The AVPR1B gene encodes the vasopressin V1b receptor (V1bR), also known as vasopressin 3 receptor (VPR3) or antidiuretic hormone receptor 1B. This receptor is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds vasopressin and activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system, playing a key role in regulating homeostasis and controlling water, glucose, and salt levels in the blood. It is one of four vasopressin receptors, each with specific functions and tissue locations. The V1bR, located in the anterior pituitary, is relatively rare and was recently characterized. It shares similarities with other vasopressin and oxytocin receptors, including AVP1A, AVP2, and oxytocin receptors. The AVPR1B gene is located on chromosome 1q32 and is a member of the vasopressin/oxytocin family subfamily.
