ATP1B1

Description

The ATP1B1 (ATPase Na+/K+ transporting subunit beta 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

ATP1B1 is a gene that encodes the beta-1 subunit of the sodium/potassium-transporting ATPase, a crucial enzyme involved in maintaining the balance of sodium and potassium ions across cell membranes. This enzyme, composed of an alpha and a beta subunit, is vital for osmoregulation, nutrient transport, and electrical excitability in nerve and muscle cells. The beta subunit, encoded by ATP1B1, regulates the number of sodium pumps at the cell surface by assembling with the alpha subunit to form functional pumps. Several isoforms of the beta subunit are produced from alternative splicing of the ATP1B1 gene.

ATP1B1 is a non-catalytic component of the sodium/potassium-transporting ATPase, essential for maintaining sodium and potassium gradients across the cell membrane. It plays a key role in regulating the number of sodium pumps at the cell surface by forming heterodimers with the catalytic alpha subunit. Additionally, ATP1B1 is involved in innate immunity by promoting interferon production and signaling pathways, likely through its interaction with TRAF3 and TRAF6 proteins.

ATP1B1 is also known as ATP1B.
