ATF7IP2

Description

The ATF7IP2 (activating transcription factor 7 interacting protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

ATF7IP2 acts as a recruiter protein, connecting transcription factors to the general transcription machinery. This interaction influences both transcription regulation and chromatin formation. Depending on the cellular context, ATF7IP2 can act as an activator or a repressor of gene expression. It plays a role in MBD1-dependent transcriptional repression, likely by recruiting complexes containing SETDB1. The complex formed with MBD1 and SETDB1 suppresses transcription and might link DNA methylation with histone H3 lysine 9 trimethylation (H3K9me3) activity.

ATF7IP2 is also known as MCAF2.
