ASPG

Description

The ASPG (asparaginase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

ASPG is a multi-functional enzyme with various enzymatic activities, including lysophospholipase, transacylase, PAF acetylhydrolase, and asparaginase. It plays a crucial role in the metabolism of phospholipids by catalyzing transacylation reactions. ASPG can transfer acyl groups from one phospholipid to another, contributing to the synthesis of different phospholipid species. Specifically, it mediates the synthesis of 1-arachidonoyl species of phospholipids by transferring the arachidonoyl residue from 2-arachidonoyl lysophospholipid to the sn-1 position of 2-acyl lysophospholipid.

ASPG is also known as C14orf76, GPA/WT, LYSOLP, hASNase1.
