ARPC4

Description

The ARPC4 (actin related protein 2/3 complex subunit 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

ARPC4 is a gene that encodes a protein subunit of the Arp2/3 complex, a multiprotein complex involved in the regulation of actin polymerization. The exact function of ARPC4, also known as the p20 subunit, is not fully understood. The Arp2/3 complex has been implicated in cell motility and is highly conserved throughout evolution. ARPC4 interacts with ARPC5, another subunit of the Arp2/3 complex.

ARPC4 is a component of the Arp2/3 complex, a multiprotein complex that plays a critical role in actin polymerization. It mediates the formation of branched actin networks in the cytoplasm, driving cell motility. The Arp2/3 complex is activated by nucleation-promoting factors (NPFs) to initiate actin polymerization. Beyond its role in the cytoplasm, the complex also participates in nuclear actin polymerization, which regulates gene transcription and DNA repair. The Arp2/3 complex is particularly important in promoting homologous recombination (HR) repair, a crucial process for repairing damaged DNA. It achieves this by promoting nuclear actin polymerization, facilitating the movement of double-strand breaks (DSBs).

ARPC4 is also known as ARC20, DEVLO, P20-ARC.
