ARPC1A

Description

The ARPC1A (actin related protein 2/3 complex subunit 1A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

The ARPC1A gene encodes a protein called Actin-related protein 2/3 complex subunit 1A, which is one of seven subunits that make up the human Arp2/3 complex. This subunit belongs to the SOP2 family and is closely related to the protein encoded by the ARPC1B gene. This similarity suggests that both proteins might function as the p41 subunit of the Arp2/3 complex, which is known to control actin polymerization within cells. The p41 subunit may be involved in assembling and maintaining the structure of the Arp2/3 complex. The existence of multiple versions of the p41 subunit could allow the complex to adapt its functions to different cell types or developmental stages.

ARPC1A, also known as SOP2-like protein, is thought to be a part of the Arp2/3 complex. This complex plays a crucial role in regulating the growth of actin filaments, and, in conjunction with a nucleation-promoting factor (NPF), it facilitates the creation of branched actin networks.

ARPC1A is also known as Arc40, HEL-68, HEL-S-307, SOP2Hs, SOP2L.
