ARL6IP4

Description

The ARL6IP4 (ADP ribosylation factor like GTPase 6 interacting protein 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

ADP-ribosylation-like factor 6 interacting protein 4 (ARL6IP4), also called SRp25, is encoded by the ARL6IP4 gene located on chromosome 12q24.31. Its exact function is unknown, but it is believed to play a role in splicing regulation due to its sequence homology with SR splicing factors. The protein is expressed ubiquitously but only during the G1/S phase of the cell cycle. The human and mouse mRNAs of ARL6IP4 share 77% homology. ARL6IP4 is 360 amino acids long and contains two types of amino acid clusters: a serine cluster and a basic cluster. It is believed to be a mediator in the RAC1 signaling pathway.

ARL6IP4 is involved in regulating alternative pre-mRNA splicing, potentially by activating 5' distal splicing sites or favoring the use of 3' proximal splicing sites. In the event of infection by Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSVI), ARL6IP4 may act as an inhibitor of HSVI pre-mRNA splicing.

ARL6IP4 is also known as SFRS20, SR-25, SRp25, SRrp37.
