ARGLU1

Description

The ARGLU1 (arginine and glutamate rich 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

Arginine and glutamate-rich protein 1 is a protein encoded by the ARGLU1 gene located on human chromosome 13. This protein is thought to be crucial for estrogen-dependent gene transcription and the growth of breast cancer cells, potentially acting through its interaction with MED1. The ARGLU1 gene produces at least three different RNA versions (splice isoforms), one of which is fully functional and codes for the protein, another is kept in the nucleus, and a third is targeted for breakdown. Notably, ARGLU1 contains a long, highly conserved sequence called an Ultraconserved Element (UCE) within its retained intron. This element overlaps with the alternative exon.

Plays a crucial role in the activation of genes regulated by the estrogen receptor (ESR1), a process dependent on estrogen signaling.
