AQP10

Description

The AQP10 (aquaporin 10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

[Isoform 1]: AQP10 is a water channel that facilitates water transport across cell membranes regardless of the pH of the cell‘s interior (cytoplasm). It also allows glycerol to pass through, particularly when the cytoplasm becomes more acidic. This protein plays a role in water and glycerol permeability of fat cells (adipocytes), potentially aiding in the use of glycerol released from the breakdown of phospholipids. AQP10 may also be involved in water transport in the intestines. (PubMed:12084581, PubMed:21733844, PubMed:23382902, PubMed:30420639, PubMed:11573934, PubMed:15221416)

AQP10 is also known as AQPA_HUMAN.
