APOBEC3H
Description
APOBEC3H is a gene that encodes a cytidine deaminase enzyme involved in the innate immune response against retroviruses. This enzyme acts by introducing mutations into viral DNA, hindering its replication. APOBEC3H is also implicated in various cellular processes, including DNA repair and regulation of gene expression. Its activity is tightly regulated to prevent harmful mutations in host DNA.
Associated Diseases
- Cancer (e.g., breast, lung, and ovarian cancers)
- Autoimmune diseases (e.g., systemic lupus erythematosus)
- Viral infections (e.g., HIV, hepatitis B virus)
