APOBEC3B-AS1

Description

APOBEC3B-AS1 is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 22. It is transcribed from the opposite strand of the APOBEC3B gene, which encodes a DNA cytosine deaminase involved in innate immunity. While APOBEC3B functions in viral restriction, APOBEC3B-AS1 exhibits a complex and multifaceted role, particularly in the context of cancer development. Studies have shown that APOBEC3B-AS1 can act as both an oncogene and a tumor suppressor, depending on the specific cancer type and cellular context. Its involvement in cancer development is often linked to its ability to regulate gene expression, influencing cell proliferation, apoptosis, and invasion.

APOBEC3B-AS1 is a ‘pseudogene‘ - it doesn‘t code for a protein, but it can still have important biological functions.
