APOA1BP

Description

The APOA1BP gene provides instructions for making a protein called apolipoprotein A-I binding protein. This protein is found in the blood and is thought to play a role in the regulation of lipid metabolism, particularly in the transport and breakdown of cholesterol. It binds to apolipoprotein A-I, a major protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which is often referred to as "good cholesterol". APOA1BP may help to regulate the levels of HDL in the blood. Variations in the APOA1BP gene have been linked to changes in HDL levels, and some studies suggest that these variations may be associated with an increased risk of heart disease.
