ANGPTL2

Description

The ANGPTL2 (angiopoietin like 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

Angiopoietin-related protein 2, also known as Angiopoietin-like protein 2, is a protein produced by the human ANGPTL2 gene. It plays a crucial role in maintaining tissue health by promoting inflammation to repair damaged tissue. However, excessive ANGPTL2 activation can lead to chronic inflammation and contribute to metabolic diseases. It's also involved in blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), tissue repair, obesity, atherosclerosis, and cancer development. ANGPTL2 is a secreted glycoprotein related to the angiopoietin family, which are growth factors that specifically target vascular endothelium (the lining of blood vessels). Like other angiopoietins (angiopoietin-1, angiopoietin-2, and angiopoietin-4), ANGPTL2 contributes to blood vessel formation.

ANGPTL2 is also known as ARP2, HARP.
