ANGPT2

Description

The ANGPT2 (angiopoietin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

Angiopoietin-2 is a protein encoded by the ANGPT2 gene in humans. It acts as an antagonist for both ANGPT1 and TIE2, and is expressed primarily at sites of vascular remodeling. Its function is similar to angiopoietin-1. ANGPT2 interacts with TEK tyrosine kinase.

ANGPT2 binds to TEK/TIE2, competing with ANGPT1 for the same binding site. This interaction modulates ANGPT1 signaling and can even induce tyrosine phosphorylation of TEK/TIE2 in the absence of ANGPT1. ANGPT2 plays a role in vascular remodeling, acting as a permissive angiogenic signal by promoting endothelial cell migration and proliferation in the presence of VEGF. However, in the absence of angiogenic inducers, ANGPT2 can lead to endothelial cell apoptosis and vascular regression. Additionally, it is involved in regulating lymphangiogenesis.

ANGPT2 is also known as AGPT2, ANG2, LMPHM10.
