ANAPC5

Description

The ANAPC5 (anaphase promoting complex subunit 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

ANAPC5 (Anaphase-promoting complex subunit 5) is an enzyme encoded by the ANAPC5 gene. It is a component of the anaphase-promoting complex (APC), a crucial protein complex involved in cell cycle regulation. This complex is composed of at least 8 protein subunits, including ANAPC5, CDC27, CDC16, and CDC23. ANAPC5 interacts with other subunits like ANAPC1, ANAPC4, CDC27, and PABPC1.

ANAPC5 is a subunit of the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), a key regulator of cell cycle progression. APC/C is an E3 ubiquitin ligase, responsible for attaching ubiquitin tags to target proteins, leading to their degradation. This process is crucial for controlling the transitions between different phases of the cell cycle, particularly mitosis and the G1 phase. APC/C primarily forms 'Lys-11'-linked polyubiquitin chains, but also 'Lys-48'- and 'Lys-63'-linked chains, influencing the fate of various cell cycle proteins.

ANAPC5 is also known as APC5.
