AMOT

Description

The AMOT (angiomotin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

Angiomotin (AMOT) is a protein encoded by the AMOT gene. It belongs to the motin family, characterized by coiled-coil domains and PDZ-binding domains. AMOT is primarily expressed in endothelial cells of capillaries and angiogenic tissues like the placenta and tumors. It was discovered in 2001 through a yeast two-hybrid screen for angiostatin-binding peptides. The AMOT gene is located on chromosome X, spanning 3252 nucleotides across 11 exons. Two splice isoforms are known: p80 and p130, which differ in size and actin content. AMOT p80 is a 72.54 kD protein with coiled-coil domains and a PDZ-binding motif, containing an angiostatin binding domain.
