AMIGO1
Description
The AMIGO1 (adhesion molecule with Ig like domain 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
AMIGO1 promotes the growth and bundling of nerve fibers (neurites) from cultured hippocampal neurons. It may also contribute to the bundling and insulation (myelination) of developing nerve axons. AMIGO1 may play a role in nerve regeneration and the adaptability (plasticity) of the adult nervous system. It can interact with itself and with other similar proteins (AMIGO2 and AMIGO3) to mediate cell-to-cell communication. It can also bind to and regulate the activity of a potassium channel protein (KCNB1).
AMIGO1 is also known as ALI2, AMIGO, AMIGO-1.
