AMER2

Description

The AMER2 (APC membrane recruitment protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

AMER2 acts as a negative regulator of the canonical Wnt signaling pathway, which is involved in the development of the nervous system. AMER2 specifically binds to phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PtdIns(4,5)P2), a molecule found in cell membranes, and this binding causes AMER2 to move to the cell membrane. Once there, AMER2 interacts with key proteins involved in the Wnt signaling pathway, including components of the beta-catenin destruction complex. This interaction helps to control the levels of beta-catenin, a protein that is important for activating Wnt signaling. By regulating the activity of the Wnt pathway, AMER2 plays a role in the proper development of the nervous system.

AMER2 is also known as FAM123A.
