ALDH3B2

Description

The ALDH3B2 (aldehyde dehydrogenase 3 family member B2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The ALDH3B2 gene codes for a member of the aldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme family. This family plays a crucial role in detoxifying aldehydes produced by alcohol metabolism and lipid peroxidation. This particular gene is over 10kb long and its expression is primarily found in the salivary gland. Various alternative splicing variants of this gene have been identified.

This enzyme converts medium and long chain aldehydes into harmless fatty acids.

ALDH3B2 is also known as ALDH8.
