ALDH1B1

Description

The ALDH1B1 (aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member B1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

ALDH1B1, also known as Aldehyde dehydrogenase X, mitochondrial, is an enzyme encoded by the ALDH1B1 gene in humans. This enzyme belongs to the aldehyde dehydrogenase family and plays a key role in the detoxification of alcohol-derived acetaldehyde. The gene lacks introns in its coding sequence and variations in this locus are linked to the development of alcohol-related problems.

ALDH1B1 is also known as ALDH5, ALDHX.
