AKR1B15

Description

The AKR1B15 (aldo-keto reductase family 1 member B15) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

AKR1B15, also known as aldo-keto reductase family 1 member B15, catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of various carbonyl substrates, including aromatic aldehydes, alkenals, ketones, and alpha-dicarbonyl compounds. It also exhibits 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity, reducing androgens and estrogens with high positional selectivity, as well as 3-keto-acyl-CoAs. AKR1B15 displays strong enzymatic activity towards all-trans-retinal and 9-cis-retinal, suggesting a role in retinoid metabolism. No oxidoreductase activity has been observed with tested substrates.

AKR1B15 is also known as AKR1B10L, AKR1B10L, AK1R1B7, AKR1R1B7.
