AKNA

Description

The AKNA gene (also known as AKAP10) encodes a protein that plays a crucial role in regulating synaptic plasticity and neuronal function. This protein, known as A-kinase anchoring protein 10, acts as a scaffold, organizing signaling complexes at the postsynaptic density (PSD) of synapses. AKNA interacts with various signaling molecules, including protein kinases, phosphatases, and scaffolding proteins, thereby influencing the phosphorylation state and activity of critical proteins involved in synaptic transmission and neuronal signaling.

Associated Diseases

Did you know?

Mutations in the AKNA gene have been linked to altered brain structure and function, including changes in the size and shape of the hippocampus, a brain region involved in learning and memory.
