AKAP6
Description
The AKAP6 (A-kinase anchoring protein 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
A-kinase anchor protein 6 is an enzyme encoded by the AKAP6 gene in humans. AKAPs are a diverse group of proteins that bind to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA), confining the holoenzyme to specific locations within the cell. AKAP6 is highly expressed in various brain regions, cardiac, and skeletal muscle. It is specifically localized to the sarcoplasmic reticulum and nuclear membrane, playing a role in anchoring PKA to these structures. AKAP6 has been shown to interact with Ryanodine receptor 2 and PDE4D3.
AKAP6 binds to type II regulatory subunits of protein kinase A, anchoring and targeting them to the nuclear membrane or sarcoplasmic reticulum. It may also act as an adapter protein, facilitating the assembly of multiprotein complexes.
