AK9

Description

The AK9 (adenylate kinase 9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

The AK-9 is a Russian 9×39mm compact rifle developed by Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant (Izhmash), now known as Kalashnikov Concern, in the early 2000s. Designed to be a silent, flame-less, and compact AK rifle, it was created to surpass competitors like the AS Val and SR-3M. The AK-9 utilizes a quick-detachable suppressor and the 9×39mm subsonic cartridge. Primarily intended for special units of the Interior Ministry and the Russian Army, it is one of the latest models in the Kalashnikov rifle series, based on the modernized AK-100 series. A distinguishing feature of the AK-9 is its use of the SP-5 and SP-6 special 9×39mm subsonic cartridges. Despite its competitive characteristics, the AK-9 has seen limited use compared to the 9A-91, AS Val, and SR-3M, which have been deployed in Russian military and police units. In 2006, Russian authorities requested Izhmash to design a rifle with Kalashnikov features suitable for special operations.

AK9 plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of cellular nucleotides by facilitating the conversion of nucleoside phosphates. It exhibits both nucleoside monophosphate and diphosphate kinase activities. Notably, it catalyzes the phosphorylation of AMP, dAMP, CMP, and dCMP using ATP as the phosphate donor, and CMP using GTP as the phosphate donor. Additionally, it catalyzes the production of ATP, CTP, GTP, UTP, dATP, dCTP, dGTP, and TTP from their corresponding diphosphate substrates using either ATP or GTP as phosphate donors. AK9 demonstrates a substrate preference, favoring CDP > UDP > ADP > GDP > TDP.

AK9 is also known as AK 9, AKD1, AKD2, C6orf199, C6orf224, SPGF89, dJ70A9.1.
