AHNAK

Description

The AHNAK (AHNAK nucleoprotein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

AHNAK, also known as desmoyokin, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the AHNAK gene. It was initially identified in 1989 in bovine muzzle epidermal cells and named desmoyokin due to its appearance resembling a yoke in the desmosomal plaque. AHNAK has been shown to be crucial for pseudopod protrusion and cell migration. It interacts with S100B. You can find more information on the AHNAK gene and its location in the UCSC Genome Browser.

AHNAK may play a role in neuronal cell differentiation.

AHNAK is also known as AHNAK1, AHNAKRS, PM227.
