AGRP

Description

The AGRP (agouti related neuropeptide) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

AGRP may refer to: Agouti-related protein

AGRP plays a role in weight homeostasis and regulates feeding behavior by interacting with the central melanocortin system. It acts as an antagonist to alpha melanocyte-stimulating hormone, inhibiting cAMP production through melanocortin receptors in the hypothalamus and adrenal gland. AGRP exhibits low activity with MC5R and acts as an inverse agonist for MC3R and MC4R, suppressing their constitutive activity. Its interaction with MC3R and MC4R leads to endocytosis in an arrestin-dependent manner.

AGRP is also known as AGRT, ART, ASIP2.
