AFF3

Description

The AFF3 (ALF transcription elongation factor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The AFF3 gene encodes a nuclear transcriptional activator preferentially expressed in lymphoid tissue. It belongs to the highly conserved AF4/FMR2 family of transcription factors, which may be involved in lymphoid development and oncogenesis. In some acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients, AFF3 has been found fused to the MLL gene. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different proteins have been identified for AFF3.

AFF3 is also known as KINS, LAF4, MLLT2-like.
