ABCC12

Description

The ABCC12 (ATP binding cassette subfamily C member 12) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

The ABCC12 gene encodes for a protein known as Multidrug resistance-associated protein 9. It belongs to the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters and contains two ATP-binding domains and 12 transmembrane regions. ABC transporters are involved in moving various molecules across cell membranes, with ABCC12 being part of the MRP subfamily, which plays a role in multi-drug resistance. The ABCC12 gene is located on chromosome 16 and its increased expression is linked to breast cancer. Loss of function in this gene is associated with hereditary cholestasis.

The specific molecules transported by this protein are currently unknown.

ABCC12 is also known as MRP9.
