TUFM

Description

The TUFM (Tu translation elongation factor, mitochondrial) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

TUFM, or elongation factor Tu, mitochondrial, is a protein encoded by the TUFM gene in humans. It is an EF-Tu homolog.

TUFM promotes the GTP-dependent binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the A-site of ribosomes during protein biosynthesis. It also plays a role in the regulation of autophagy and innate immunity. TUFM recruits ATG5-ATG12 and NLRX1 at mitochondria and acts as a checkpoint in the RIGI-MAVS pathway. Consequently, it inhibits RLR-mediated type I interferon while promoting autophagy.

TUFM is also known as COXPD4, EF-TuMT, EFTU, P43.
