TTLL5
Description
The TTLL5 (tubulin tyrosine ligase like 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
TTLL5 is a polyglutamylase enzyme that modifies tubulin by adding polyglutamate side chains to specific glutamate residues in the C-terminal tail of tubulin. TTLL5 preferentially initiates the polyglutamylation reaction over elongating it, and it favors modification of the alpha-tubulin tail over the beta-tail. TTLL5 is required for the localization of CCSAP to both polyglutamylated spindle and cilia microtubules. Additionally, TTLL5 increases the effects of the transcriptional coactivator NCOA2/TIF2 in glucocorticoid receptor-mediated repression and induction, as well as in androgen receptor-mediated induction.
TTLL5 is also known as CORD19, KIAA0998, STAMP.
