TRAP1

Description

The TRAP1 (TNF receptor associated protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

TRAP1, or Heat shock protein 75 kDa, mitochondrial, is a protein encoded by the human TRAP1 gene. It interacts with EXT2, EXT1, and the Retinoblastoma protein.

TRAP1 acts as a chaperone with ATPase activity. It plays a role in maintaining mitochondrial function and polarization, operating downstream of PINK1 and mitochondrial complex I. As a negative regulator of mitochondrial respiration, TRAP1 balances oxidative phosphorylation and aerobic glycolysis. This regulatory influence is likely achieved by modulating mitochondrial SRC and inhibiting SDHA.

TRAP1 is also known as HSP 75, HSP75, HSP90L, TRAP-1.
