TMPRSS15

Description

The TMPRSS15 (transmembrane serine protease 15) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

TMPRSS15, also known as Enterokinase, Serine protease 7, Transmembrane protease serine 15, is a serine protease crucial for digestion. It's produced in the duodenum and plays a vital role in activating pancreatic digestive enzymes. TMPRSS15 converts trypsinogen into active trypsin, which then activates other proenzymes, including chymotrypsinogen, procarboxypeptidases, and proelastases. This activation cascade is essential for efficient digestion of food. TMPRSS15 is a heterodimer, consisting of a catalytic (light) chain and a multidomain (heavy) chain linked by a disulfide bond. Its absence leads to impaired intestinal digestion.

TMPRSS15 is also known as ENTK, PRSS7.
