TJP2

Description

The TJP2 (tight junction protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

Tight junction protein ZO-2, encoded by the TJP2 gene, is a member of the MAGUK family of proteins that are crucial for organizing epithelial and endothelial intercellular junctions. It binds to the cytoplasmic tail of transmembrane proteins at junctions and connects them to the actin cytoskeleton. TJP2 interacts with several proteins, including tight junction protein 1, band 4.1, occludin, and USP53, highlighting its role in junctional organization and cellular signaling.

TJP2 plays a crucial role in the formation and function of tight junctions, which are essential for maintaining the integrity of epithelial and endothelial barriers. It also participates in adherens junctions, another type of cell-cell junction. Additionally, TJP2 acts as a positive regulator of osteoclast differentiation, a process vital for bone remodeling. This regulation is likely achieved by TJP2‘s influence on downstream transcriptional activity.

TJP2 is also known as C9DUPq21.11, DFNA51, DUP9q21.11, FHCA1, PFIC4, X104, ZO2.
