The TIMM22 (translocase of inner mitochondrial membrane 22) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
TIMM22, also known as Testis-expressed protein 4, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TIMM22 gene. It is a core component of the TIM22 complex, a complex that mediates the import and insertion of multi-pass transmembrane proteins into the mitochondrial inner membrane. Within the TIM22 complex, TIMM22 forms a voltage-activated and signal-gated channel. This channel acts as a twin-pore translocase, utilizing the membrane potential as an external driving force in two voltage-dependent steps.
