TGM3 : transglutaminase 3

Description

The TGM3 (transglutaminase 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

The TGM3 gene provides instructions for making an enzyme called transglutaminase 3. This enzyme is found in keratinocytes and corneocytes (specialized skin cells) as well as in the root and shaft of scalp hair. Transglutaminase 3 strengthens skin and hair cells by binding proteins together at specific amino acids (glutamine and lysine), creating sturdy cross-links between them.

TGM3 is also known as TGE, UHS2.
